New Parent Info

Welcome

Welcome new parents to the Queensmill Quackers swim team! We look forward to getting to know you and your swimmers this summer. If you have any questions not answered below, please send us an email.

Will my child swim in all the meets?

Swimmers need to be able to swim the length of the pool by themselves. They are allowed to hold onto the lane lines, however, they are not allowed to advance themselves by using the lines (or the bottom of the pool). The coaches may recommend that a beginning swimmer not swim in a meet if they feel that the child is unable to complete the swim. All swimmers are entered into the meet at the coaches’ discretion.

How early should I arrive before a swim meet?

The coaches will post a time for swimmers to be at the pool. Because chairs and space are at a premium, you should consider arriving 15-20 minutes prior to warm-ups.

What should I bring to the meet?

You may want to bring a chair, a cooler with drinks, money for snacks, lots of towels, swim cap, and goggles, and a camera. Some nights are cool, so you may want to bring a QM sweatshirt. We will have 3 home meets. Your family will be asked to sign up to bring an item for the concession stand to sell for 1 home meet. Concessions are a very important part of keeping our swim team financially viable. If your swimmer will not be participating in the home meet that you have been assigned, please switch with another family. Your help with this is VERY much appreciated.

How do I know what my child is swimming?

The coaches will choose each swimmer’s events based on their ability and team scoring opportunities. By the day of the meet, swimmers will be told the events they are swimming, and events are also posted on the bulletin board. Heat sheets will also be sold at the meet with heat and lane assignments.

Is there any special information for the parents of younger swimmers?

It is a big help to the Clerk of Course Helpers if you pay close attention to the progress of the meet. Your child needs to be in the line-up area several minutes before the mites are called to line up. The Clerk of Course Helper will line your children up in the order they need to be in. Often it is more confusing having all the parents in the area, so, please trust the experienced Clerk of Course Helpers and leave your little one with the other swimmers. Please stand by the end of the pool and cheer your little one to the finish line! Also important – be sure your child goes to the bathroom BEFORE they report to the Clerk of Course area.
